The Bermondsey Tea Set
Southwark
2006

The Bermondsey Tea Set was our response to the Bermondsey Ideas Competition run as part of the London Biennale by Southwark Council in May 2006.  The scheme was awarded first place.

An interest in the boundary between public and intimate space, combined with research into Bermondsey’s relationship to the River Thames, the former ‘beach’ on the north bank of the Thames by Tower Bridge and the 18th Century Pleasure Garden on Spa Road lead to the proposal:  The disused toilet in Bermondsey should be replaced with a Hammam.

The Hammam was approached as a series of individual elements that came together to form the whole, similar to that of a tea set.
